My current bass amp for home use is a custom build I did a few months back. The amp is an old Silvertone tube amp that I pulled from an old silvertone organ. The amp uses 12AX7 preamp tubes and a 6BQ5/EL84 output tube. Its 5 watts of pure hand wired tube tone. The amp is configured to be very clean until its almost maxed, then it starts to break up. I have the silvertone amp running into an old Polytone bass cabinet that hold a single 15" Eminance speaker. The speaker cab has a very cool black diamond pattern tolex covering. The old Polytone bass cabinet is built very well and sounds incredible. Originally it had a solid state amp in it but the amp was long gone when I got it.
I also use this amp with guitar as a second amp in the mix. This way I can have very nice clean lows mixed with overdrive, mids and highs from one of my other tube amps. One combination I love to use is the Silvertone amp with the Polytone cabinet and my Fender Vibro-Champ. The fender gives me some nice overdriven tube tones and mostly mids and highs, the silvertone gives me all the bottom end and adds a sweetness to the tone. With both amps running together they really sounds great together and will easily be loud enough to play a small gig.
