I just ordered some nice GFS pickups, I’ve read some good things about them and decided to get some first hand experience with them. The order went through today for an Alnico Fatbody OversizedPolepiece Tele Neck Pickup and a 5.25K Alnico Boutique Strat Pickup. I’m fairly close to where GFS is located so I should be getting these any day.
I have a Butterscotch Blonde Tele that I’m going to try the Alnico Fatbody in. From what I hear the oversized polepieces are supposed to really add to the tone, we’ll know soon enough. I’m sure it will be an improvement over the stock pickup. I am still trying to decide which bridge pickup I want to try. I’ve asked Dave at GFS and I’ll let you know what his hot choices are when he replies.
The 5.25K Alnico Boutique Strat Pickup is going in a strat body in the neck position. I am still deciding which bridge pickup I want to use with it. It takes a full sized humbucker and I want the best tone I can get. I want something that can get real bluesy to a good hard rocking edge.
Of course I’ll be testing these with my two hand wired Class A tube amps with Alnico speakers. And since the guitars both came stock with ceramic magnet pickups, I think these Alnico’s will really be a big improvement. I’ll let you know when they arrive and I’ll post a few pictures of the upgrade as I do it.
UPDATE:
I made up my mind and ordered some more parts. I just ordered the Alnico Fatbody 10K OVERWOUND Tele Bridge Pickup to match the neck pickup I ordered eariler. I think these will look great and sound incredible on my tele. According to UPS the neck pickup should arrive tomorrow. The bridge pickup will probably be here in two days so I’ll wait and do them both at the same time.
I also ordered a Weber Alnico speaker for my vibro champ. I ordered the weber signature series and I’m looking forward to breaking it in. Also The distorion/Overdive Pedal I ordered arrived today. You can read about it in my effects section.
